Fairway Elementary School’s Media Center Makeover
One hundred media centers are being renovated at schools throughout Broward County as part of the SMART Bond Program, which focuses on improvements in the areas of Safety, Music and art, Athletics, Renovation, and Technology. Fairway Elementary School’s media center was completely remodeled with eye-catching furniture and modern technology. Media centers promote literature, exploration, community, and collaboration among students. The upgraded centers incorporate modern learning styles and provide resources that support the school’s curriculum to help students improve their literacy skills at their own pace. Students are provided with a variety of new books that pique their interest, encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Many of the renovated media centers also have more seating, increasing capacity and allowing for more students to collaborate in the center.
Fairway Elementary was allocated $7,891,900 of the SMART Bond Program budget to improve its media center, as well as its roofing, walkways, electrical systems, fire alarm systems, HVAC systems, and to enhance safety and security. In the city of Miramar, students at Miramar High School will also get to enhance their learning in a renovated media center. The SMART Bond Program has invested approximately $1.4 billion in improving the quality of the BCPS educational experience, making a positive impact on the lives of students and staff, and giving Broward County communities something to be proud of through renovation.
To highlight the impact of the media center renovations at Broward County Public Schools, the “What SMART Means to Me” campaign launched a new initiative titled Sparking the Joy of Reading.
