Building the Future:

Take Your Child to Work Day 2025

On April 24th, the SMART Program hosted its annual Take Your Child to Work Day event. This year the event was hosted at McArthur High School, where construction work on the school’s new two-story STEM building is underway. The SMART Program team gave its young participants an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the construction site. During their tour, the children were able to learn about construction management and project management directly from the SMART Program’s industry mentors and experts.

SMART Program experts emphasized the importance of safety at the construction site and equipped the children with their own construction crew gear (hard hats, ear plugs, and safety vests). The children were also given their own project manager clipboards, which they used to fill out a project status report of the construction site. The tour was an amazing, immersive activity that highlighted the different roles that make complex construction projects possible.

The young participants also engaged in a variety of hands-on activities delving deeper into the world of SMART Program construction. Every activity, from creating their own building dioramas to understanding proper safety protocols and scope assessment, was designed to offer insight into the processes involved in constructing new facilities for Broward schools. The day concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked the children’s successful journey through the world of SMART Program construction and their next steps towards a bright future.

Take Your Child to Work Day is dedicated to broadening children’s understanding and sparking their curiosity regarding the career opportunities that are available to them. The SMART Program is grateful for this opportunity to inspire and help build future leaders.
